The "before" pic of a vintage hat I was given. This obviously is the front. It needs some black mesh similar to the Christian Dior collection from 1990 I saw on youtube.com this week.
Side view. 1940s? Front brim is 5 inches deep. This is a straw hat and the label says Gage Brothers and Co., Chicago, New York. It came from the Reynolds estate in Lewisville NC, cousins of the tobacco tycoon.
Back view shows the band is a mere 2 3/4 inches deep in back, which sure makes it easier to ride in a car.
Finished hat! I am very pleased with it and its exactly what it needed.
Photography is a tricky thing when it comes to exposures. This is the best I could do but the mesh isnt showing up as it should. I made the velvet and lace choker, shown here doubled up with an additional necklace. I plan to wear the hat this Sunday with something else more demure.
