I made this dress by remaking a jumpsuit I made in about 2000 while living in Boston. The top part wasnt changed but the Palazzo pants bottom part had enough for the skirt. When I moved to NC in 2002 I needed Summer dresses. Its an elastic Empire waist pullover. The hat was a gift from a friend here in Lewisville NC. She found it in the attick of her 1860's farmhouse. Thank you!
Made this dress last summer 7 times! Each dress takes 5 hours to make and I love them all. Side zip. They are daily summer dresses, cool and comfy, complete with detachable underarm pads so I can wash just the pads, not the entire dress. Where can I get a few nice belts to wear with them? The search is on.
This a dress I made for a friend 6-2015. It can be worn with a crinoline slip to poof the skirt out, but few people have one or wouldnt dream of doing that. I have 7 of these cotton summer dresses myself and own several crin, half and full slips, since I dress in vintage style frequently. I also crocheted the vintage hanger.
I discovered that I come from a long line of seamstresses and tailors. Regina Coutremanche wed my grandfather Odilon La Voie's brother Pierre in about 1930. She worked in alterations for a department store in Fall River, MA. Thanks to the Fall River public library genealogy room, and finding this framed photo at my parents house, I did some sleuthing. French Canadian roots via Rimouski Co., Quebec. Her portrait hangs in my hatroom. She wears a beaver hat and racoon stole.
